Union Station Museum...

On Friday, Aug. 15th, we were going to go up to the Ogden Temple Open house and my sweet friend Karen said "be sure to go to the Union Station Museum, the kids will love it!  And be sure after the temple to go across the street to Farr Ice cream!"  We took her advice and did both.  (more pics in another post) Thanks Karen!  The train museum was wonderful.  It is the old Union Station and it was very fun to be there!  First we looked at all the trains out in the yard.  They are huge!  Then we had the boys lay on the track like they were going to get run over (because we did it with his mom when she and her siblings were young) and we told them to make their scary face.  Jacob actually was scared (we tried to make him understand there was no more track and the trains don't work) and he heard a train whistle and was off that track so fast you would not believe it!  It was funny.  Sorry Jacob.  Then we had them act like they were running from the train.  They were funny.  Inside the old station was a huge room and it was fun to imagine what it looked like when it was full of benches and passengers as a bustling train station.  There was a hands on place for the kids and there were model trains to watch.  There was a caboose to go inside and we saw the vault and the golden spike!  There were a lot of relics from the old train days and I loved seeing all that old stuff!  It was a very fun place!  There was also a Browning Gun Museum which was interesting (so many old guns!)and I especially liked the picture of John Wayne.  Made me think of my dad.  We saw the Browning gun shop when we visited old Nauvoo, so it was fun to see a board about that and then information about his son, grandson, great-grandson and even a great-great grandson that is still alive and in the gun business!  There was also a Vintage car museum there...all these museums under the same roof!  There was a Cowboy Museum too but it was pretty tiny and not very interesting for most of us.  We enjoyed our morning there and seeing all the train stuff.  Amanda's friend and his little girl Lilly were with us too, so that is who else you see in the pictures.  Ogden has all these horse statues throughout the town, lining main street and such.  They are all painted or decorated differently.  Some were pretty interesting.  We are wondering what that is all about.  There was really nothing to explain it.  I will have do some research!
