Tuesday evening we decided we need to hike to the Y on the mountain by BYU. We've been told it's "not that hard" and it's something we wanted to do, so we did it! It's hard to see in this first picture, but that white spot up there on the side of the mountain is the Y. We are thinking it shouldn't be too bad. Ha. ELEVEN switchbacks! Straight up! Well, it seemed like it was straight up! The trail was pretty nice...it took us about an hour to climb it. The little guys did really good! They made it all the way to the top with no assistance! They did get excited when there was a bench to sit and rest on. Grandma liked that part too! And we stopped and rested several other times when there were no benches...just a railing or a rock! David rode on Clif's shoulders for a few minutes, and Jacob got carried down the mountain about the last third of the way, but other than that, they hiked it all! We were very proud of them. Jacob was happy when he had his walking stick. Our friend Mark Nielson joined us too, so we had quite a group going up the hill! Lots of pictures here...it was a monumental feat for us old and young people! It was beautiful to see the sunset over Provo from up there...great view!
We are almost there! Just a little further!
My feet as I sit at the top of the Y...and Joel down the hill taking our pic at the top!
Can you see the Provo Temple?
The sun setting on Y Mount...very pretty!
This creepy guy gave us a start on the way back down! He was huge! Dave had to stand guard with a big stick while the rest of us went behind him to get past the critter. Two girls on the trail would still be there today if we hadn't helped them get past it. They were very afraid and I don't blame them!
Ta da! We did the Y! And lived to tell about it! Another fun "outing" that we are glad we did! Now when we drive by and see the Y on the mountain, we can say we were up there! And funny thing, but when we drive by now it suddenly looks a lot higher on the mountain...glad we hiked it before they moved it! ha ha...

I don't know what would have been harder....hiking all the way to the top. or running into that black widow!
You are having a fun vacation without going anywhere. Looks like a great place to be!
